This collection of poems is a companion volume to The Swing, in which the award-winning poet’s fascination with life on a remote Idaho farmstead inspired reflections of wonder about the perceptions of his young daughter as well as the natural world.

Gary Gildner is the author of nearly two dozen poetry collections and works of prose and professor emeritus of English at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. published eighteen books of poetry, fiction, and memoir, his most recent being Calling from the Scaffold (University of Pittsburg Press, 2022). He has won numerous awards for his poetry and short stories, including the Theodore Roethke Prize, the Robert Frost Fellowship from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and the William Carlos Williams Prize for poetry. He has taught at universities across the country, and has been a Senior Fulbright Lecturer in Poland and Czechoslovakia.
