Eighteen poems exploring the loves, the lusts, the dreams, the screw-ups, the mind of a flawed-though-likable spirit named D.J., husband, father, gambler, ex-husband-x-four , who “views his isolation / like a country motel sign.” The poems tell the story of a life—from youth, to marriage, to fortunes, to death, to remembrance.

Alan Minskoff, a poet and journalist, moved to Boise, Idaho in 1972; he lives in Boise and teaches journalism at the College of Idaho. During 1976 and 1977, he was the project director of A Future for the Small Town in Idaho. He has edited Idaho Heritage Magazine, Boise Magazine, Boise Journal and was Editor-in-chief of HERE WE HAVE IDAHO: People Make the Difference. His poetry has appeared in Eight Idaho Poets; Idaho's Poetry: A Centennial Anthology; Things To Do in Idaho. Minskoff’s essays have appeared in Where the Morning Light's Still Blue and Boise@150 among other publications. He and his wife Royanne co-chaired the campaign to build the Idaho Shakespeare Festival amphitheater in Boise. Among his passions, Minskoff is responsible for helping to save old buildings in Boise and he is most proud of having helped found the The Cabin literary arts nonprofit organization. Each poem is beautifully illustrated with an exquisite postage stamp-sized pencil illustration by Boise artist Elizabeth Wolf.
