Hayden Carruth (1921-2008) lived in upstate New York, where he taught for many years in the Graduate Creative Writing Program at Syracuse University.
He authored more than 30 books of poetry, fiction, criticism, and two anthologies, and was the recipient of numerous prizes, including the 1996 National Book Award for Scrambled Eggs & Whiskey and the National Book Critics Circle Award for his Collected Shorter Poems.
